Private First Class Bert A. Bogan, 33545429, Medical Department, United States Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States near *** [Lutrebois], Belgium on 31 December 1944. Private Bogan, an aid man, moved calmly among the members of a machine gun platoon as the held a forward position for more than an hour against against powerful and repeated enemy counterattacks. He performed his duties so skilfully that each of the wounded men treated was able to resume his position on the line. When mounting pressure on both flanks finally made withdrawal mandatory, Private Bogan checked the condition of each of his patients, and assisted two walking-wounded to the new positions. His coolness and zealous devotion to duty under fire reflects credit upon Private Bogan’s character as a soldier, and upon the Medical Department of the Army.
