Fletcher, 37504418, Infantry, United States Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in the vicinity of *** , Germany on 27 March 1945. When the support platoon of Company I, 134th Infantry, and the mortar section, were pinned down by heavy enemy fire during the course of an attack against strongpoints guarding the approaches to *** , Germany, Sergeant Fletcher, a squad leader, and a comrade provided covering fire while another rifleman made his way toward an enemy strongpoint until he was able to throw grenades into the enemy position. Sergeant Fletcher then charged the enemy position and assisted in reducing it, wounding two Germans and capturing three others. His heroic actions reflect credit upon his character as a soldier.
