John E. Krebs, O-101231, Captain, Infantry, Company B, 760th Tank Battalion. For gallantry in action on 6 January 1944, in the vicinity of Mt. Porchia, Italy. As Commanding Officer, Company B, 760th Tank Battalion, Captain Krebs led his Tank Company in attack on Mt. Porchia, taking up an advanced position which exposed him to constant heavy artillery and anti-tank gun fire. From his position he directed the fire of his company, successfully stopping a counterattack which was developing to the northwest of Mt. Porchia. Despite the fact that all but two of his tanks were immobilized, due to fire on mechanical failures caused by difficulty of terrain, and all of his tank ammunition gone, Captain Krebs continued to hold his position for more than three hours until the infantry came up to hold the position. The courageous leadership and gallantry displayed by Captain Krebs typify the finest traditions of the military service. Home address: Odessa, Texas.
