"For Outstanding Services and Continuous Gallantry in Action. In particular on the afternoon of 18/2/1941 at Ionte, shortly after a pontoon bridge had been completed over the Juba River, one of our patrols encountered enemy forces moving into position to attack the bridge head. These patrols immediately attacked the enemy and Major Gwilliam led his Armoured Cars into action. In difficult sandy and bush country which it has been impossible to reconnoitre before, he broke into the centre of the enemy position captured one light gun, two Breda guns and some M.G., killing their crews."
