Private First Class John W. Sedicum, 13136521, Company D, 760th Tank Battalion. For exceptionally meritorious service in support of combat operations on 19 March 1944 near Cassino, Italy. On the afternoon of 19 March 1944, at about 15:30 hours, the tank of which Private First Class Sedicum was a crew member was put out of action by a direct hit from an armor-piercing projectile. The tank at the time was in an exposed position and was under heavy small arms and artillery fire. When another tank came alongside his disabled tank to evacuate the crew members, Private First Class Sedicum volunteered to remain in the tank and man the .30 caliber bow machine gun. He remained in the tank for more than 45 minutes during which time he fired approximately 1500 rounds into nearby enemy positions. His cool manner and aggressiveness typifies the fines traditions of the United States Army. Entered the service from Lutherville, Maryland.
