Chester M. Wright, O-1011907, 1st Lieutenant, Infantry, Company D, 760th Tank Battalion, for gallantry in action on 19 March 1944 near Albaneta House in the vicinity of Cassino, Italy. On the morning of March 19th at 10:30 hours, Lieutenant Wright took the first section of his platoon forward in the face of heavy artillery and small arms fire and evacuated four members of the crew of a tank which was stuck. At 14:30 hours the same day he led his platoon in an attack on the Albaneta House area in the face of heavy enemy fire. He continued his attack toward the objective until all possible further advance was blocked by another tank which had been knocked out of action. After returning from this forward area while under heavy artillery and small arms fire, Lieutenant Wright again went forward more than 800 yards ahead of the friendly infantry line and made an attempt to evacuate men who were in knocked-out tanks. The manner in which Lieutenant Wright worked, without regard for his personal safety, was an inspiration to his men, greatly increasing the efficiency of his platoon and exemplifies the highest tradition of the Armed Forces. Entered the service from San Antonio, Texas.
