Awarded for his Batterie’s contributions in assisting the breakout of the XXIII. Armee-Korps during late January 1942 in the Rzhev area. In this time the Batterie particularly distinguished itself on the 23.01.1942 when it destroyed 18 enemy guns 1 km SE of Bachmatowo.

He was also recognized for his personal total of enemy tanks and AT guns destroyed thus far. By the time of his being recommended for the Knight’s Cross he had destroyed a total of 35 enemy tanks since the start of Barbarossa.

Recommendation:
During the battles for Novo-Palovski, Ignatviko and Masloff on January 14th, Knight’s Cross wearer Hauptmann von Malachovski again distinguished himself. In an independent operation he led his group, consisting of only seven tankdestroyers, two 2cm anti-aircraftguns and 50 footsoldiers, in an attack on Novo-Palovski and captured both places after heavy fightnig against enemy tanks and pushed along the right flank of Ignatviko through to the perimeter of Massloff. His tankdestroyers put 18 T-34 tanks and one KV-1 out of action, Hauptmann von Malachovski personally accounting for four T-34 tanks and one KV-1.
