Citation:
"For gallantry in action against the enemy, on 1 April 1945, in the vicinity of Lamershagen, Germany. When a task force of tanks and Company G was halted by devastating panzerfaust fire, Technical Sergeant BURTON led five soldiers onto a wooded cliff to reconnoiter and, if possible, eliminate the panzerfausts. Observing the panzerfausts, Technical Sergeant BURTON, led his men in a bold assault which destroyed the position and enabled the tanks to resume their advance. Seven Germans were killed by Technical Sergeant BURTON and his comrades, four were taken prisoner, and fourteen bazookas were captured. The vigorous, fearless leadership given by Technical Sergeant BURTON is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service."
