Biography
Thomas Boylan, after qualifying embarked Australia aboard the RMS "ORFORD" on 31-12-1937 and sailed to the UK where he was granted a short service commisson inthe RAF and qualified as a first pilot on Hampdens on 17/12/ 39 [day] and night on 1/3/1948 (?) in No. 144 (B) squadron. He was transferred to 106 squadron, then 144 squadron in February 1940 and subsequently to No. 106 squadron Finningley where he completed 60 missions.

10 November, 1940: Flight Lieutenant
1 September, 1941: Squadron Leader (Temporary)

Citation:
"In a second tour of operational flying since being awarded the D.F.C., Sqn. Ldr. Boylan has carried out a further 27 sorties over enemy territory and waters. In the course of these operations, a wide variety of targets have been attacked, including targets in Hamburg, Gelsenkirchen, Kiel, Cologne and other important centres. He has also participated in three attacks on the enemy warships when berthed at Brest. All his missions have been carried out with commendable thoroughness and skill. Over a period of six months, this officer has commanded a flight with conspicuous success and the performance of his ground duties has
been beyond reproach. He has set an inspiring example."
