Married Anna Bos (20 October 1911 Loppersum). Fireman. No church. Duursma was part of the KP-Groningen II. His resistance card has the following added: sabotage section. He belonged to the Communist Party of the Netherlands, which was banned by the Germans. Duursma distributed Noorderlicht and later De Waarheid. A railwayman was in hiding with him. In May 1941 he was arrested for the first time, but released again. On 9 January 1945 a new arrest followed as a result of other detentions. His wife was also imprisoned. Like her husband, she received the resistance memorial cross. On 22 January 1945, Duursma and nineteen others were shot on the Woudweg as a reprisal for the killing of the German SD'er Jakob Maus (31 August 1900 Büchel - 19 January 1945 De Valom) and the serious wounding of the Belgian SD/SS Rexist Raoul de Keuckelaere (15 March 1907 Ghent - 24 January 1945 Leeuwarden), who died a few days later. Duursma was posthumously awarded the Resistance Commemoration Cross. His name is on a memorial at the execution site and on the war memorial at the Noorderdwinger in Dokkum. (Source: OVCG).
