Citation:
"For heroic achievement in action on 22 December 1944, in the vicinity of Bitche, France.
When his three-inch gun had been hit by a hostile artillery shell and it became necessary to move the weapon to a safer position, Sergeant Zichella and another enlisted man so skilfully performed the task of moving and camouflaging the gun, that although the new position was under direct enemy observation and fire, its operation remained concealed from the enemy for a total of thirty-six hours. And later, when it became necessary to withdraw the gun, this maneuver was so silently and well executed that no enemy fire was drawn to the area."
