He has distinguished himself by his courageous and tactful conduct in connection with actions against the enemy and has served the interests of the Kingdom as one of the first members of a KP team (combat team) in Twenthe during the years of occupation from 1940 to 1945 by having taken care of and having transported downed members of Allied aircrews, having received and distributed weapons that had been dropped as well as by acts of sabotage against railroads, roads, etc.
On three occassions he took a group of “pilots” to the Belgian border and he participated in three raids on the prison in Arnhem, the third of which was succesful as well as in a raid on the prison in Almelo where important members of the resistance were liberated.
