Biography

Lived in Delft. Son of Cornelis Johannes van der Sloot and Adriana Johanna van Brandwijk. Married to Alida Johanna van Meesem (five children). Police sergeant. Reformed. Member of the resistance under the pseudonym Jan. He was the deputy leader of the LO/KP in Delft. Among other things, he took part in a raid on the police station in Delft in 1944, during which several Jews and two resistance fighters were liberated. Van der Sloot also provided the resistance group with all kinds of valuable information that he received professionally, and he was also a contributor to the illegal magazine Op Wacht. He was arrested on 13 October 1944 at an address occupied by the SD. He was wounded in a fight during an escape attempt. He was later overpowered and shot some time later. His remains were recovered on 24 March 1947. Van der Sloot was posthumously awarded the Resistance Memorial Cross. A canal in Delft was named after him.
