Biography

Foppe Baron was the constable of Loppersum and lived there on the Wirdumerweg. He passed on sensitive information to the resistance, supplied blank identity cards to the resistance group Garrelsweer and transported ration cards for people in hiding in uniform. He thwarted an unplanned robbery of the distribution office in Loppersum and was promoted by the Germans for this. He was aware of a robbery of the distribution office in Slochteren and helped to distribute the loot.
On 28 July 1944 he was arrested after betrayal by the notorious Geesje Bleeker. In March 1945 he died in a German concentration camp. On 9 June 1946 he was reburied in Loppersum. He was posthumously awarded the Resistance Commemoration Cross.
