Recommendation:
For having distinguished himself in combat by performing outstanding acts of courage, tact and loyalty:
1) as intelligence officier in the period between March 17th to May 18th, 1947 while liquidating gangs and restoring order in the Ommelanden near Batavia (Djakarta). In particular by tactfully and unrelentlessly hunting down the raider gangs so that eventually, by his personal contribution, the as yet highly feared and influential gangleader Handji Pandji could be arrested and so lifting the heavy pressure on the local population and ending the robberies and assassinations in this area.
2) by making his way through enemy territory during the advance to Krawang on western Java between July 21st and July 23rd, 1947, riding a jeep and accompanied only by a driver and a wireless operator and far ahead of the forward units. In doing so, he set an inspiring example to the local auxiliary troops under his command. Moreover by personally taking out many enemies with his light machinegun and preventing that many bridges were blown up by acting quickly and forcefully.
