"Sergt. Stirton has served with this Unit for over 5 years, in France in 1940, In the United Kingdom, and in his present Theatre of War. During his period of service, his devotion to duty has never faltered. His work as a Sapper and N.C.O. in France in 1940, on fortifications, in the U.K. on Fort and Harbour Constructions, and later in this present campaign on Roads, Roadheads, and R.E. Works including Bridging and the clearing of Enemy Obstacles, has been carried out with skill and determination.
As a Sportsman he is unequalled in the Company, and he has contributed very largely to the good spirit and comradeship of the Unit, as a result of his untiring efforts in connection with Company recreation."
