He has distinguished himself in combat by courageous and tactful conduct and so serving the interests of the Netherlands as liaisonofficier O.D. District Western Flanders during the final months of the occupation when the district was isolated due to war actions and the only way of communication with the island of Walcheren was by radio. He did everything in his power to establish and maintain this connection by using a secret transmitter, incurring risks frequently in the process. In order to supply the regional command of the O.D. on Walcheren with valuable information, he made the crossing aboard a German warvessel during the time in which the crossing by sea was closed to civilians, taking all risks involved.
