Weiser's Knight's Cross recommendation (minus the earlier details of his career) reads as follows...
"The Kampfgruppe fighting in the southeast and southwest of Kharkov produced an outstanding result there. His [Weiser's] Kompanie, always in the thick of the fighting, inflicted high bloody losses upon the enemy.
On 6.3.1943, the Kampfgruppe had the order to move out of their start positions north of the area Olchowatka, over Blagedatnoje-Laideschevo and venture until after Hf. Ssenhkoff Kut in order to break through. They were to push through the strong hostile positions south of Walki and thereby create the prerequisites for a further attack of the Division on the Msha.
All leaders at the point of attack succeeded and SS-Obersturmführer Weiser, in his own personal attack, pushed against the enemy defensive system. This was in spite of strong enemy resistance and a relatively unfavourable route through to the point of breakthrough. Without consideration to the threatened flank, he executed a bold penetration with his Kampfgruppe early in the day and therefore assisted with the attacks of the neighbouring Kampfgruppen. By the seizure of Hf. Ssenhkoff-Kut itself in the early morning after heavy street fighting, where he fought at the lead of his men, he made possible the advance of the Panzers. This was only made possible through elimination of the heavy enemy weapons, especially the tank defenses.
He took the independent decision on the same day to stop the continued advance towards Walki, because of shortages in munitions and material. The enemy losses correspond to the success of the day:
3 guns (12.2cm)
20 guns (7.62cm long)
9 AT-guns (4.5cm)
5 AT-guns (3.7cm)
20 mortars
35 Machine guns
19 tank guns
49 light vehicles
Assorted light weapons
On the following day (7.3.1943), in the attack of the Kampfgruppe on the heavily defended village of Walki, SS-Obersturmführer Weiser with his Kompanie riding on Panzers ruthlessly pushed through the heavy weapons of the enemy. He bored through the defensive front and made possible, through speed and disregard for his own vulnerabilities, the rapid advance of the Kampfgruppe into Walki. He succeeded through lightning-quick acts in destroying the enemy strength in the west part of the city and prevented mine-laying by the enemy. Out of his own initiative, SS-Obersturmführer Weiser with his Kompanie pushed again the same afternoon over Walki out to the railway line in Hf. Grinzef and therefore transformed the retreat of the enemy into a wild flight. The remaining enemy in the area through Walki was destroyed.
The day's prey:
32 guns (7.62cm long)
3 guns 12.2.cm
8 light guns
11 mortars
57 trucks
On the first day of the attack on the city of Kharkov, SS-Obersturmführer Weiser with his Kompanie penetrated through to the main street Stara-Moskovka. Very strong enemy tank forces prevented the deliberate taking of the street leading to Tschuguyev. On the second day SS-Obersturmführer Weiser again pushed towards Stara-Moskowka and the strong enemy tank obstacles on the street. SS-Obersturmführer Weiser used his pistol to kill 2 enemy tank commanders whilst they were in their turrets. In the following hard street-fighting, Weiser was again the lead fighter and the example to his Kompanie. His Kompanie destroyed and/or captured over 15 guns and 100 anti-tank guns.
SS-Obersturmführer Weiser, through his circumspect leadership, has delivered success again and again. I ask that the achievements of this Kompanie leader be acknowledged with the award of the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross."
