He has distinguished himself in combat against the enemy as a member of a KP unit in northern Drenthe that was involved in organizing so called weapon drops which have actually been used in combat in the vicinity of Smilde and Appelscha during the liberation in April 1945. He personally took part in the fighting around Appelscha where the KP unit co-operated with French paratroops and where he, on behalf of the commander of the unit, delivered an important message to the Canadian units in Friesland.
