Biography

Jan lived in the Oude Boteringestraat 1/1 in Groningen. He married Wietske Balsters just before the outbreak of the war. He was a typographer/manager at the printing company v.d.Kamp. He was a member of the LO, the OD and the De Groot group. He provided illegal literature and hiding places for Jews. On 26 April 1945 he was arrested by the SD in connection with the rounding up of the De Groot group. Via the House of Detention in Groningen he was deported to Camp Sandbostel/Neuengamme. He died on 25 May 1946 in Groningen due to the hardships he had to endure in the camp.
