"For heroic achievment in connection with military operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, 6 June 1944. Disregarding heavy artillery, machine-gun and small-arms fire, Sergeant Ross courageously remained in exposed territory to render first aid and evacuate numerous wounded comrades. His coolness and skill under fire were responsible for saving of many lives and bolstering the morale of assault elements."
