Biography

Wilhelmina "Mientje" ten Dam-Pooters, like her brother and sisters, was a member of the Communist Youth Union "De Zaaier" (The Sower) and warned against fascism in Germany even then.

When the war broke out, she, her husband and her family soon became involved in the resistance. She distributed the illegal newspaper "De Waarheid" and sheltered people in hiding. Her brother Bram was a member of the resistance group CS-6 and was executed and her sister Nel narrowly survived a concentration camp.

After the war, she told her story in schools and continued to fight against injustice and discrimination.

A bridge was named after her in Amsterdam in 2021.
