"For meritorious achievement in active ground combat against the enemy while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, on 1 August, 1944, in support of the “Old Hickory” Division’s seizing the well-defended Troisgots, in France. Sergeant Anderson’s exemplary performance of duty in active ground combat was in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the Army of the United States."
