Pieter, as a radio technician, was part of the Knokploeg of the National Organisation for Assistance to People in Hiding (L.O.). In 1945 he went into hiding in Uithuizermeeden, with members of the local resistance group, including municipal official Sietse Bergsma, teacher Willem Nienhuis and Bene Roelf Westerdijk. In the farm on the Dwarsweg, where the men were staying, weapons and a radio transmitter were hidden.
During a raid on 6 February 1945, the men were arrested by the Germans, after rumours had been spread in the village. Around 17:00 the farm was surrounded, after which a raid took place. Pieter, Gerrit Bakker (from Eindhoven) and Bene Roelf tried to escape, shooting.
Pieter reached the duck decoy on the Meneersweg, but was tracked down there and shot dead.
