He has distinguished himself on May 10, 1940, by acts of exceptional courage and tact in the face of the enemy by erecting a barricade on a railway near Mill on his own initiative, causing an enemy armored train to derail. In the ensuing heavy fighting against the occupants of this train, he has defended this position near the ruins of Kapelhof the whole day long against a superior enemy force.
