Citation:
"For heroic achievement in action on 3 April 1945 at Wurzburg, Germany. As a member of an assault boat crew during the forced crossing of the Main river at Wurzburg, Germany, Private Paulson participated in numerous round trip crossings of the river under heavy machine gun, sniper, and flak fire. Ignoring the enemy fire, he continued to volunteer to carry infantry men and ammunition to the far shore and return with wounded and prisoners until the bridgehead was firmly established and the river bridged. Through his outstanding courage, skill, and unswerving devotion to duty, Private Paulson made an effective contribution to the rapid capitulation of the key city of Wurzburg."
