"The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel Justin G. When his Battalion Commander became a casualty, Lieutenant Colonel Duryea assumed command and, in the face of heavy enemy shellfire, courageously led his men until he was seriously wounded while on a reconnaissance in front of his own lines.
