Alfred Shaw-Ball was educated at Brockhurst/Church Stretton and graduated at Royal Military adademy Sandhurst in 1926 after which he was commissioned in the Kings Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI).
He joined the 1st Battalion KSLI in Delhi, India in 1933.
In 1940 he joined no. 2 Battalion KSLI and became seond in command of no 2 Battlion KSLI in North Africa and landed subsequently at Salerno.
In 1943 he left the KSLI to command the 7th Oxforshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Following the award of his DSO he was wounded and evacuated to a hospital in Naples after which he served the war out as a training officer.
Postwar postings included Palestine, Cyprus and the UK and Hong Kong, Inchon (Korea) and commander of 131 Brigade, a Territorial Army Brigade.
