At the time of the Italian Armistice CLARK was a P/W at MACERATA (Camp 53).
Leaving on 15 Sep 43 when the sentries had deserted, he spent three months at POMIANO.
Early in Jan 44 the party with whom he was being guided over the lines, encountered armed Italians.
Clark was taken prisoner, handed over to th Germans and returned to MACERATA Camp. With 12 others he escaped through a tunnel, and taking refuge in the mountains, awaited the arrival of the Allies. For seven weeks he served with a rebel band, mainly engaged in raiding Fascist stores. He reported at ASCOLI in Jun 44."
