"Lt Colonel Rothschild, British Army, while serving with the Army of the United States, distinguished himself by meritorious service in connection with military operations not involving participation in aerial flights against an enemy of the United States from 1 September 1944 to 14 September 1944. While engaged in counter-sabotage activities, Lt Colonel Rothschild was a member of a team assigned the task of examining a chateau in the village of Rocquencourt, France, for the purpose of identifying enemy Secret Services bombs, Studying new enemy camouflages for sabotages material, and seizing documents indicating destinations of bombs dispatched to sabotage agents. He was exposed for fourteen days to extreme danger from a high explosive charge known to have been placed under the chateau, booby traps, and numerous enemy grenades, detonators, and unfamiliar sabotage explosives on the grounds and in all rooms of the chateau. In spite of the hazards involved, he worked surely and efficiently to obtain information of great value. The devotion to duty and disregard for personal safety displayed by this officer are in the best traditions of the armed forces."
