Schury received the Oakleaves for his leadership of the Jäger-Regiment 229 during the following actions...

1) The heavy fighting in the forests NW of Zukow (23.04.1944-07.05.1944).

2) The offensive and defensive battles east of Delatyn (08.05.1944-15.07.1944).

3) The battle of Lemberg (16.07.1944-27.07.1944). As Schury and his troops found themselves surrounded by Soviet forces from both the East and West in the area of Winniczki, they received the mission to break out to the SW.

Schury led the right group of his Regiment. It reached the Dawidow—Lemberg road and stormed Krotoszyn. West of the village the regimental staff and a Zug from 6. Kompanie became separated from the majority of the group, but (under Schury's skillful leadership) it was able to cross the Lemberg—Stryj road and reach German lines. The larger group meanwhile was also able to cross into friendly territory on 27.07.1944.
