Walter married Marguerite Durette Clavett on February 8, 1948. He had 3 children, Walter Norman Clavett, Lynn Clavett Rowson, and Catherine Clavett Corriveau. He owned a juice route for many years, but the perils of war left him with many scars and what today probably would be called "Post Traumatic Syndrome". He turned to alcohol to bury his pain at what he endured. He was a good man, as one can see from his military record, but his demons eventually took his life at the young age of 49.
