"Lieut Dicking was I.O., S. Sask R., during the operation at Dieppe, 19 Aug 42. He took command of men from "A" Coy when no other officer was available. Personally leading attacks on enemy M.G. posts which were holding up the Coy, he destroyed them, thus enabling the Coy to continue its advance and carry out its tasks. During the withdrawal his effective efforts in organizing the necessary defence lines were the means of enabling his men to reach the beaches. Lieut. Dickin's courageous leadership and disregard for personal safety contributed greatly to "A" Coy's success in this action."
