Krijn van den Helm, Regional KP leader in Friesland, born 19 October 1912 in Amersfoort, died 25 August 1944 in Amersfoort, son of Krijn Johannes van den Helm and Sieuwke Lyclama à Nijeholt. Married to Johanna Cornelia Logtenberg
Van den Helm was commie at the Taxes in various municipalities, including The Hague, Leeuwarden and Amersfoort and was under the command of the well-known and important organiser of the Frisian resistance Jan Evenhuis and worked with him at the Taxes in Amersfoort.
During the German invasion, he fought on the Grebbelinie, where he was wounded. During the first years of occupation, he was the founder of the first knokploegen in Friesland. A key action included the raid on the labour office in Leeuwarden.
He would later become provincial leader of the KP in Friesland. He also worked for the LO, helped more than 200 Jews go into hiding and was a contact for an Amsterdam resistance group that sent Jewish children into hiding. Furthermore, he arranged for fake papers and distribution vouchers. He also helped Allied pilots escape.
On 25 August 1944, at his hiding place in Amersfoort, he was shot dead by Dutch SD' er Pieter Johan Faber.
Pieter Johan Faber, was put to death for this in 1948. Krijn van den Helm's body was searched for a long time after the war. It was found in a mass grave near the Amersfoort camp. On 1 December 1945, in the presence of the entire Frisian resistance, Krijn van den Helm was reburied in Leeuwarden, in the Noorder cemetery with other fallen resistance fighters. His son Krijntje was buried with him.
