"At ASSMARK.. (Norway) on April 21st 1940, the 1/5th Leicester Regt. was attacked during the taking over of a line from the Norwegians. Signal communication had not been established and Captain Coleman, acting as Bn. Intelligence Officer displayed conspicuous gallantry whilst obtaining and reporting personally informationm under heavy fire. Later that night, after orders to withdraw had been received, transport failed to appear at the rendezvous leaving the Battalion and 18-mile march to LILLEHAMMER. Then half-way there there they received a report that the enemy had occupied LILLEHAMMER. Capt. Coleman went ahead and with complete disregard for his personal safety managed to collect 2 lorries, these he brought back to meet the battalion until entirely owing to his efforts 60 men were rushed through LILLEHAMMER after the enemy had entered the town."
