Teunis Hessel was at Camp Amersfoort, prisoner number 4922. Teunis was involved in the establishment, print and distribution of the resistance paper 'Voor God en den Koning' (for God and King) and he and his familiy helped hiders. In the last years of the war, he was the courier to Switzerland on behalf of the BM group of the Dutch Intellegence Department. He made many trips from the Netherlands to Switzerland via Paris and vice versa at the risk of his own life. He was arrested on August 2, 1944 in the train at Ermelo for being in possession of forged papers. He was interned in Camp Amersfoort on August 11 and deported to Brunswick on the 25th. He was interned in forced labor camp 21 in Hellendorf. He was put to work in MIAG (Muhlenbau und Industrie AG, today Miag Fahrzeugbau GmbH) from August 28, 1944 until April 10, 1945. He was admitted to the hospital in Brunswick as a result of an accident in which his legs were drenched in liquid lead. He was liberated from the hospital by the Allies.
