Biography

Albert Bartholomay grew up in Medina, Medina County, Ohio. He graduated from Medina High School in 1939. He enlisted into the Army during his senior year (1942) at the Ohio State University and got his degree in the spring. He was studying law at the time. "He received his military training at Fort Lewis, Washington, Camp Bend, Oregon, and Camp Roberts, California " - Medina Gazette. He departed San Francisco, California aboard the U.S.S. General John Pope on 27 July 1944.

"Pfc. Bartholomay was a member of an artillery forward observer party attached to an infantry assault battalion. When the party came under intense artillery fire from an enemy battery which was also causing damage to our supplies on the beach and seriously hampering unloading operations, he remained at his post transmitting information which resulted in neutralization of the enemy battalion. Pfc. Bartholomay''s heroic devotion to duty cost him his life."
