Citation:
"For gallantry in action against the enemy in Germany, 23 November 1944. When two weapons of the machine gun platoon in which he was serving as gunner were put out of action, Private First Class Mizzell, who had been left behind in reserve, with complete disregard for his own safety, attempted to run through an intense enemy mortar barrage to replace one of the damaged weapons. In this action he was killed by a direct hit from an enemy mortar shell. The intrepidity, loyalty and unswerving devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Mizzell reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States."
