On the evening of the 10.07.1942 Hauptmann von Hagen and his II./Infanterie-Regiment 267 (with 3 subordinated light infantry gun Zügen) launched a surprise thrust forwards, building on the successes achieved earlier that day. The attack succeeded in capturing Hills 244.2 and 230.5. By this action the 94. Infanterie-Division reached its first attack objective 24 hours earlier than planned, and thereby opened the way for the friendly Panzer forces to strike towards the Donez river. Hauptmann von Hagen would receive the Knight’s Cross for accomplishing such a notable success.
