"570 Coy RASC (Inf Bde) u/c 128 Inf Bde were responsible for S & T Services in the S.Peloponnese. Coy HQ was established in KALAMATA where supplied were received by sea. An RASC detachment was stationed in TRIPOLIS (20 miles away) near Bde HQ. The officer in charge was Capt DF Saunders. His responsibilities included:
(1) Direct liaison with Bde HQ and the Greek Authorities.
(2) The ordering and distribution of S & T sups from KALAMATA for civil relief organisations in the Northern area of the Peloponnese.
(3) Control of all RASC transport used for civil relief in the area (approx 200 vehs)
Appalling roads and bad communications made contact between S & T TRIPOLIS - KALAMATA a very difficult matter. The responsibility of maintaining an adequate flow of civil relief commodities was heavy. The strain on drivers and vehicles was very great. Capt Saunders spared no effort in maintaining the high standard of service that was required to carry out commitments. His tactful liaison, constant and unflagging energy together with a cheerful acceptance of responsibility far beyond that normally required from an officer of his rank ensured the successful completion of his task.
HQ 128 Bde and the Greek Comd expressed their approval and appreciation of the S & T Services. In the highest possible degree credit for the success is due to Capt Saunders."
