Johann Harzenetter wass nomination by his unit to received the Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes. The recommendations was received by the Heerespersonalamt (HPA—Army Staff Office) on April 13th, 1945 and was approved by Major Joachim Domaschk on April 14th. The Heerespersonalamt-Verleihungsvorschlag (HPA-VV—Army Staff Office Nomination Recommendation) Nr. 5089 was forwarded on April 21st. There is no evidence that the nomination was further processed. According to the Association of Knight's Cross Recipients (AKCR) the award was presented in accordance with the Dönitz-decree. This is illegal according to the Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt) and lacks legal justification. The presentation date was assigned by Walther-Peer Fellgiebel as being May 9th, 1945.
