"As Commanding Officer of the CARPATHIAN LANCERS, Lt. Col. ZAKRZEWSKI distinguished himself as a brilliant leaer and skilful commander, when his regiment captured the PASSO CORNO feature on 20th May 1944, during the opening phase of the Allied offensive in ITALY. He has subsequenly led his regiment with courage and distinction throughout the campaign on the ADRIATIC sector and again showed himself to be an outstanding commander by his swift and bold action on the coast road between PORTO REGANATI and ANCONA on 17th and 18th July 1944, which gained suprise over the enemy and affected the course of the whole operation which led to the capture of ANCONA."
