"MAURICE G. HANDOLL, 182525, Captain, Royal Artillery, British Army, Headquarters British Eighth Army, for meritorious achievement in support of combat operations in Italy from 18 November 1944 to 20 April 1945. As British Eighth Army Liaison officer attached to Headquarters, United States 79th Fighter Group, Captain Handoll was responsible for the collection and dissemination of all army information, as well as the brief flights which were assigned to close support army targets near front line troops. Assuming not only his responsibilities but also related activities, Captain Handoll tirelessly worked long hours carrying out his own new ideas and conceptions. As a result, he succeeded in arousing a new interest in, and conception of army-air problems; as well as in introducing exemplary methods of briefing which elevated the results of attacks on enemy targets. Through his unceasing efforts, over and above the normal requirements of his assignments, Captain Handoll contributed greatly to the furtherance of the Allied efforts. His initiative, efficiency and complete devotion to duty have retracted great credit upon himself and the armed forces of the Allied Nations. Entered service from London, England."
