"T/Major (War Sub. Captain) G. W. Hain, 122090, K.R.R.C, while serving with the British Army and working in close conjunction with the Army of the United States distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service to American personnel during the period July and August 1942. On his initiative he aided immeasurably in solving the problems caused by the arrival of large number of troops on leave in the London area before sufficient facilities were provided to take care of them. He made available transportation to take men to the ARC Clubs and arranged for the overflow to be taken care of by British Welfare Clubs. He worked with Col. (then Major) D.H. Povell in arranging for the use of air-raid shelters as emergency sleeping accommodatibles during this period, and his voluntary assistance to the U.S. Special Service Section was of considerable value. His efforts contributed appreciably to the morale of U.S. troops on leave in the London area."
