"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with Battery C, 60th Coast Artillery (Anti-Aircraft), Philippine Scouts, in action at Fort Mills, Philippine Islands, on 12 April 1942. When Fort Mills was exposed to intense shelling and severe bombing by the Japanese, a battery position, several buildings, fortifications, and much equipment were destroyed, causing many casualties, Sergeant Davis, with utter disregard for his personal safety, left a sheltered position and hastened to the scene of a demolished kitchen where a cook lay critically injured. Despite relentless enemy artillery concentrations and heavy bombing raids, he assisted in carrying the wounded men 100 yards on a litter to a waiting vehicle, precariously stationed himself on its top in order to keep the litter from falling off, and rode about a mile to the Malinta Tunnel Hospital where the wounded man could receive immediate treatment. Through his outstanding courage, initiative, and unfaltering determination, Staff Sergeant Davis rescued a wounded comrade and fully exemplified the gallant spirit of the dauntless defenders of Corregidor."
