"Major T.A. CAREW was landed by parachute behind the enemy lines in ARAKAN on the night of 27 Dec 44, in command of a small party. He had never been in the Far East before and though neither knowing the language nor the people undertook this operation within the week of arrival in the theatre.
Rapidly, however, under Major CAREW's skilful guidance the party organised and directed a very successful guerilla movement which consistently supplied high grade intelligence.
At MINZEGYANG on 4 Jan 45 the R.A.F. profited so promptly of information, Major CAREW organised a series of ambushes by parties of guerillas under the direction of members of his party. This activity in the enemy's rear considerably assisted the advance of the Corps in the area. Moreover, some 110 casulaties were inflicted upon the enemy by the raiding parties themselves.
That the whole enterprise was so successful is largely due to the personal courage, coolness and resourcefulness of Major CAREW, who is now conducting his second operation behind enemy lines in this theatre.
He is recommended for the periodical award of the Distinguished Service Order."
