Biography

Born on 27-11-1922, Kristiaan Hendrik Ketel was a municipal official in Zwolle and was very active in the resistance under the pseudonym Chris van Oosten. He was a member of the KP-Sliedrecht and became its leader after Ger Wever's death. On 17-1-1944, he was involved in, among other things, a raid on the distribution office in Sliedrecht.

On the night of 9-10 May 1944, he was severely wounded during a gunfight on the Merwede with some members of the Landwacht. Despite the injuries he sustained, he managed to escape arrest.

He later became a member of the resistance in Rotterdam. When his address was found with an arrested courier, he was arrested on 3 November 1944. With three others, he was executed the next day at the shooting range on Kralingseweg in Rotterdam.

He was buried on 9 November 1944 under the name Nicolaas van Oosten at Crooswijk Cemetery and was reburied on 30 June 1945 under his own name at Kranenburg Cemetery, box A, grave number 23.
