Biography

Leslie was born on January 30, 1918 in Mundare, Alberta, the son of John Duncan McAllister and Margaret Ann McAllister nee Asher (Scottish and deceased in 1936) of Mundare. They were married on January 22 1896 in Edmonton. His brother was J.A. McAllister and his sisters were Margaret D. McAllister, Mary O’Neil, J.D. King, B.A. White and L.A. Elliott.

He was a farmer and clerk at his father’s farm and member of the United Church. His sports were gymnastics, skiing, skating, softball and basketball and his hobby was hunting.

He served from 1936-1941 as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 19th Alberta Dragoons of The Non-Permanent Active Militia of Canada. He enlisted on April 21 1941 then the RCAF in Edmonton and the date is unknown when he went thereafter overseas to the UK.

Leslie was killed in action on Tuesday March 30 1943 age 25 due to a crash at the Schuppert 7 at Zwiep near Barchem-Lochem before or after an attack on Bochum in Germany. The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were F/O Edward R. Culff in grave 2A-7-11, Sgt Albert C.A. Veeck age 30 in grave 2A-7-11 and Sgt Hubert R. Wilmore age 21 in grave 2A-7-11 The other fallen RAF crew member was Sgt Thomas. A. Dew age 22 in grave 2A-7-11.

He served with the 196 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
