    "For conspicuous gallantry and ability on 8th October, 1915, near Loos. When his sap-heads and a large section of his front trench had been nearly levelled to the ground after a four hours' bombardment, his company repelled two determined bomb attacks, in both of which the Germans nearly gained a footing in our trenches. The great personal bravery of Captain Loyd, his skilful organisation, and inspiriting example to those around him were largely instrumental in bringing about the success of his company."

    Lieutenant General Sir H.C. Loyd KCB, DSO, MC, Major-General commanding Brigade of Guards, visited the Bn to-day. Normal training continued.

    The Major General commanding Brigade of Guards Lt General Sir HC Loyd KCB DSO MC visited the Bn & saw all Sqns training.

    The Bn remained in the area of the NIJMEGEN bridges and carried out a role of local protection. The period was quiet and uneventful and from time to time the Bn was visited by the Corps, Div and Bde Commanders for the purpose of inspecting the defences. On 29 Oct 44, we were visited by the G.O.C., London District. , Lt.Gen.LLoyd, Maj General Commanding Bde of Guards, who had come from IRELAND to see units of the Gde Armd Div.
