At the end of August 1943, in the Izyum area, Hauptmann Klüver was present with the supply elements of his Regiment in order to restore his health to good order. During this time the Soviets managed to penetrate German lines nearby, and in response Hauptmann Klüver swiftly formed a Kampfgruppe consisting of supply troops and a Pak crew. He first sealed off the penetration before launching a successful counterthrust into the flank of the attackers. Hauptmann Klüver and his men would then hold this blocking position against all further attacks. Klüver would be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this tactical victory.
